Job purpose

The Systems Operations Data File (SODF) Editor position is part of the team that supports the Procedures Management Group on the IMOC II contract at NASA's Johnson Space Center. The Group is responsible for coordinating, generating, and fabricating flight procedures used by the International Space Station (ISS) crew and by ground controllers. Members of the Procedures Management Group work closely with Flight Directors, International Partners, and other NASA organizations and centers to develop SODF Procedures to established standards and strict configuration management. The position will involve training to achieve an SODF Editor's certification. Upon achieving certification, the employee will provide Editor and Word Processing support for ISS SODF Procedures production.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Duties include, but are not limited to, developing SODF procedures by editing and word processing, directing editing and word processing resources, developing and maintaining workload metrics, assisting in editing and word processing improvements, and communicating with management regarding editor and word processing workload, schedule, and priorities.
  • After attaining SODF Editor certification and while working in this capacity, the employee will begin SODF Book Manager certification in accordance with the needs of the organization.
  • Follow-on assignments will include Editor duties for Exploration and/or CST-100 programs.
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Knowledge of an editor's role and principles of configuration management are required.
  • The candidate must possess strong Microsoft Office skills (especially Word) as well as strong proficiency with Adobe Acrobat.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, leadership, and team working skills.
  • The ability to learn an internal word processing tool ((Procedure Authoring Tool (PAT)) and a SharePoint Repository tool (Configuration Management E-Tool (COMET)). 
  • The ability to occasionally work beyond regular work hours, during surge workload periods, to support critical operations.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Desired:  Working knowledge of SODF Standards, XML, and Project Management experience.
