Job purpose

Position is within the United States Antarctic Program (USAP) Information Technology and Communications department (IT&C). This position may have the opportunity to deploy, on a temporary assignment, to Antarctica as determined by management.  

Duties and responsibilities

  • High level of expertise with Windows 2012/2016 server administration.
  • Works with other groups (Engineering, Architecture, Client Services, Vessel IT, Security, etc.) to help establish the standards of system architecture, data communications, and system security; disseminates those standards to USAP for program wide compliance.
  • May be required to manage, troubleshoot and diagnose issues in Active Directory, e-mail, DNS, DHCP, file sharing, backups, application servers, and/or other systems and services or hardware as necessary.
  • Works as part of SharePoint Team to maintain the operating stability, efficiency and security of the USAP's SharePoint production server systems and infrastructure.
  • Provides SharePoint end user support.
  • Is required to participate in ongoing vulnerability management activities.
  • Engages in professional development to stay current with the demands of the position.
  • Required to participate in 24X7 on-call support as required by manager.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree is preferred. Degree in Engineering or Computer Science or related field with emphasis in system administration preferred. Equivalent, relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Hands-on experience with administering client/server applications and hardware in a multi-platform networked environment required.
  • Experience deploying and managing SharePoint 2016 and providing SharePoint 2016 end user support.
  • Expertise in Windows 2012/2016 required.
  • Security and patch management experience required.
  • Familiarity with VMware virtual infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Veeam desired.
  • Familiarity with the USAP Active Directory structure highly preferred.
  • Experience with HP Storage Area Networks (SAN) is desired.
  • Administration of complex Group Policy objects is desired.
  • Active directory management skills and strong hardware troubleshooting skills are desired.
  • Outstanding customer service and interaction skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communications skills are desired
  • Experience with SharePoint Project and/or SharePoint Business Intelligence desired
  • Former Linux experience highly desired.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residence is required.

Physical requirements

  • Deployment may be required in this position. The individual in the position must successfully complete the physical and dental examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica. Failure to meet these requirements may result in withdrawal of employment offer or other employment action.
  • Complies with applicable safety, environment, health, and waste management policies and procedure.
  • Individual must be capable of operating a standard desktop computer; must be able to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.

Position Expectations

  • This is a full-time position.
  • All expenses paid while on-ice; meals, lodging, medical, gear, travel to and from Antarctica.
