Job purpose

This is an entry level position. The candidate will work as a Communications RF On-Board Networks Utilization Specialist (CRONUS) flight controller and serve as a technical expert for the International Space Station (ISS) Command and Data Handling and Communications and Tracking Systems. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Flight controllers with the CRONUS call sign are responsible for operating the communications and command systems onboard ISS from a flight control console located in the Mission Control Center (MCC) Houston.
  • These individuals are also responsible for training astronauts, cosmonauts, and peers on those systems.
  • Personnel will be expected to complete NASA led flight controller and instructor certifications for this area of expertise.
  • Individuals in this position will support day, evening, night, and weekend shifts.
  • This position interfaces directly with the NASA customer, subcontractors and international partners.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be a recent college graduate or must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program with a completed degree in Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics by December 2020.
  • 0-2 years of experience.
  • A demonstrated ability to progress through flight controller and instructor certifications which require excellent leadership and team-working ability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including excellent verbal and written communication skills are required for this position.
  • Candidates must be able to apply technical knowledge and operations concepts to exercise effective decision making and initiative in a real-time and fast-paced operational environment.
  • Candidates are also required to pass a standard flight controller physical examination, pass security clearances and be able to travel.
  • US Citizenship is required.

  • This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Position Expectations

  • This is a full-time position.
