Job Purpose

Responsible for daily oversight of the Information Technology Help Desk. Coordinates with team and other IT departments to provide quality customer service and technical support to user community. Acquires and maintains a thorough understanding of applicable ASC policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and direction for scheduling employees, monitoring workflow and ensuring Help Desk coverage during standard business hours.
  • Accurately communicate information to Help Desk staff. Ensure Help Desk representation when coordinating support for work tasks/projects within the division or company.
  • Promote development of Help Desk processes and philosophies in order to continually improve Tier 1 troubleshooting efforts.
  • Monitor Help Desk queue and inbox and create work orders as appropriate.
  • Document all reported problems in a work order data base and follow up with assigned personnel to ensure timely resolution of problems/work orders.
  • Handle confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.) in accordance with Sensitive Rules of Behavior policy.
  • Provide basic Microsoft Office assistance to user community. Provide File Transfer Protocol (FTP) support.
  • Facilitate network and e-mail account creation, work space assignments, building access and desktop setup.
  • Perform annual/seasonal review of all Help Desk procedures and related documentation. Provide first level troubleshooting for desktop hardware and software related problems.
  • Isolate problem trends and identifies recurring problems to find permanent solutions.
  • Resolve technical problems related to Microsoft applications, electronic mail and legacy applications.
  • Utilize Windows system management tools to perform account administration, password changes, group changes, and account expiration modifications.
  • Support user community by assessing each situation to ensure timely problem resolution and minimize service interruptions.
  • Provide a central source of information enabling support personnel to recover from outages with minimum disruption to expected service levels.
  • Maintain technical competency through online training courses, conferences, and on-the-job training within IT division.
  • Coordinate the training requirements of the Help Desk personnel.
  • Participate in technical interviews for full time and contract Help Desk staff positions.
  • Provide mentoring for entry level Help Desk Support staff.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring safety is a high priority in the work place.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Denver Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support all aspects of cell phone and PDA inventory to include equipment orders, device provisioning and configuration, billing reviews.
  • Provide backup support for ASC Operator to include answering ASC main phone line, maintaining corporate phone lists online and internal intercom paging.
  • Assist with identification badge processing to include taking staff photos, issuing full time employee badges and access cards.
  • Responsible for administration of building access card database; create/disable access cards, configure access point timers, and generate ad-hoc entrance reports
  • Configure/issue two factor authentication devices

McMurdo Additional Responsibilities:

  • Develop performance expectations for seasonal contract staff; completes mid-season and post-season performance evaluations.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residence is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree in Computer Science preferred.
  • Minimum four years of experience in end user computer support to include two years in a lead or supervisory role is required.
  • Microsoft application support experience is required.
  • Working knowledge of desktop computer hardware and software, system and network recovery methods and software tools, and call tracking software is required.
  • Remote network access and two factor authentication experience is preferred.
  • Strong technical written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Excellent customer service skills are required.

Physical Requirements

  • Deployment will be required in this position. The individual in the position must successfully complete the physical and dental examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica. Failure to meet these requirements may result in withdrawal of employment offer or other employment action.
  • Complies with applicable safety, environment, health, and waste management policies and procedure.
  • Individual must be capable of operating a standard desktop computer; must be able to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.

Position Expectations

  • This is a full-time, seasonal position located in Antarctica.
  • Position requires both a GHG initial employment background screening as well as a National Science Foundation coordinated Personnel Adjudication / Employment Background Investigation (EBI) screening.
  • May be required as deemed necessary to serve as a backup to the IT&C Manager in any and all capacity if the IT Manager is absent or incapacitated.
  • Required to attend any planning and reporting meetings with IT and Station Leadership as deemed necessary.
  • All expenses paid while on-ice; meals, lodging, medical, gear, travel to and from Antarctica.
  • Performance Period: October 2022 - February 2023
