NASA Systems Design Engineer
Systems engineers develop and oversee all aspects of a complex system to solve a problem, from the initial creation of the system to production and management through the end product or solution. Systems may include products, people, services, information, natural elements, or processes-or a mix of several depending on the job. As a systems engineer, you are in charge of troubleshooting and communicating with all parties involved in implementing and using the system
NASA System Design Engineer will perform the following tasks.
1. Provide technical engineering, systems engineering, project management and integration support of Extravehicular Activity (EVA) and Intravehicular (IVA) integration functions for the International Space Station (ISS) systems and elements.
2. Support Change/Project Engineering functions through the development, manufacture, and delivery of products
3. Support Electrical Power Systems requirements and verification.
4. Support Mechanical and Structural engineering requirements of NASA Docking System Block 1 and 2.
Key Elements: Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses of all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions recognizing technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. Provide proposal support including writing inputs for submittal. Provide evaluation of test procedures and plans along with test data submittals and reports.
Key Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand systems level engineering requirements and drawings. Specialized knowledge in one technical discipline is supplemented with understanding of fundamentals in at least two other technical disciplines. Good communicator capable of working in a multi-disciplinary team of technologists as well as on an independent and self-directed basis.
Degree and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's of Science degree in Aerospace, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum 10 years' experience.
Minimum 5 years' experience working on the International Space Station.
