Job purpose

This is an entry level position. The candidate will work as an ETHOS (Environmental & Thermal Operating Systems) flight controller and serve as a technical expert for the ISS Environmental Control/Life Support System and Internal Thermal Control System. After a period of time (usually 1-2 years) as an Operator, the employee will be trained as an Instructor.

 

Duties and responsibilities

  • As a certified Instructor the individual will support shifts as needed, develop training materials, participate in the conduct of simulations, and be extensively involved in the instruction of flight crew and mission operations personnel utilizing a variety of media and facilities.
  • The individual may subsequently attain additional certifications to provide real-time support for ETHOS Mission Control Center console positions.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Math, or Science with 0-2 years of experience.
  • A demonstrated ability to progress through flight controller and instructor certifications which require excellent leadership and team-working ability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including excellent verbal and written communication skills are required for this position.
  • Candidates must be able to apply technical knowledge and operations concepts to exercise effective decision making and initiative in a real-time and fast-paced operational environment.
  • International Space Station operations are 24/7, and although most work will occur during a standard work day (8am to 4:30pm) the candidate should also be able to work odd shifts, weekends and holidays on a weekly rotation.
  • Candidates are also required to pass a standard flight controller physical examination, pass security clearances and be able to travel.
  • US citizenship is required.US citizenship is required.

Working environment

This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computer, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

 

Physical requirements

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required.  This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing as necessary.  This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds

Position Expectations

This is a full-time position and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. No travel is expected for this position.
