Job purpose

Seeking a senior Instructional Designer/eLearning lead who is enthusiastic, innovative and self-motivated. The ideal candidate for this position will have a wide variety of tools in his/her development tool kit to draw upon to offer creative learning experiences for our unique student population of Astronauts and Flight Controllers. Under the direction of CK2 Training Branch, the candidate will manage online course development, staff training and mentoring, quality initiatives, deployment of eLearning products, and ensure that instructional design principles and industry standards and specifications are adhered to in all phases of design. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Design and develop high quality, interactive courseware
  • Lead the design and development of eLearning projects and supporting instructional materials from inception to completion within established time frames
  • Manage and optimize the overall online learning design process, including: planning, design, production, SME review, delivery, evaluation and measurement
  • Ensure that all products created meet high quality standards and troubleshoot all technical issues with developed courseware
  • Maintain the Online Training website, its associated files, directories, and library database, ensuring configuration control and regular required maintenance of the training library held within
  • Plan and oversee the implementation of professional development of team members relating to best practices in online instruction, and application of Instructional design principles
  • Develop design recommendations and strategies for training deliverables where online distance learning is the appropriate vehicle
  • Work with training management to ensure training initiatives and goals are followed.
  • Work with training management to ensure the team has the appropriate hardware, software, and facilities required to develop quality training products.
  • Work with training management to recruit and hire the quality candidates to maintain staffing levels when required.
  • Oversee the Distance Learning intern mentoring program
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications 

  • Master's Degree in Instructional Design / Technology or related field
  • 8 or more years' experience developing eLearning projects in a corporate setting
  • 3 or more years of leadership experience in a curriculum development / instructional design role Background and proven skills in graphic design
  • Experience with video production; planning, deployment
  • Strong knowledge and ability with eLearning authoring tools, such as Articulate, Camtasia Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, After Effects, Premiere Pro Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and use of Instructional Design Principles Proven project management capabilities
  • Extensive background in and knowledge of available learning technologies and design trends
  • Familiarity with learning management systems "LMS" Ability to represent the Distance Learning team in a positive, professional manner
  • Digital Media Portfolio required with application.
