Job purpose

The candidate will be responsible for defining the desired software behaviors and ensuring software and system compatibility. The candidate will also support horizontal integration efforts across the program. The candidate must have demonstrated software engineering and systems capabilities, since Software Systems Engineering requires both a broad view and active participation in detailed elements (i.e. code reviews) to engineer a successful system.

Duties and responsibilities

Specific task will include, but are not limited to:

  • Collect mission, user, and system requirements from multiple stakeholders to generate a unified product strategy through user-centered design principles and systems engineering best practices.
  • Develop and validate low- to high-fidelity wireframes in support of product implementation.
  • Develop system specifications and related documentation to communicate the system design.
  • Decompose product strategy into detailed requirements that may be supplemented by user-centered design artifacts.
  • Generate user stories with clear acceptance criteria that trace to the product strategy / roadmap.
  • Support the continuous improvement of systems engineering, user experience, and Agile development processes.
  • Documenting/diagraming system requirements for both existing and new systems
  • Designing new systems to integrate into existing system architecture in efficient/cost effective manner
  • Proposing system architecture solutions that enable the current environment to adapt to data and user growth, create flexibility with current system constraints and resolve system failure points.
  • Generating deliverables such as sketches, models, diagrams, and prototypes to keep the team members, stakeholders, and/or project team up to date on the proposed architecture.
  • Ensuring that all hardware architectural documents and documents with architectural input are regularly updated.
  • Ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and implement performance optimizations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field required
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Information Technology industry.
  • 3+ years Agile software development experience.
  • Previous experience within a test and evaluation environment a plus.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Experience:

  • Experience with supporting/leading Software Design Reviews and product deliveries.
  • Experience with the development of requirements, ICDs, and test/verification artifacts.
  • Experience with software modeling and the flow down of requirements to Software development.
  • Experience with delivering status, plan, and schedule communications to a Customer.

Working environment

This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computer, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical requirements

This is largely a sedentary role, however, some filing is required.  This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing as necessary.  This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds

Position Expectations

This is a full-time position and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  No travel is expected for this position.
