Job purpose

This entry-level position provides support to the International Space Station (ISS) Procedures Management Group in the NASA JSC Flight Operation Directorate (FOD). Members of the Procedures Management Group work closely with other FOD organizations, Flight Directors, International Partners, and other NASA organizations and centers to produce ISS operational procedures. The position will require certification as a Procedures Book Manager and certification as an ODF Console flight controller.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Production of procedures for the ISS.
  • Coordinating technical changes to procedures with flight controllers and crew.
  • Developing operations concepts documentation, reviews of procedure change requests, scheduling deliveries, and coordinating with international partners on procedure development and delivery.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree (ABET), in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or in a similar field of study.
  • Candidate must be self-motivated and possess excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, leadership and team working skills.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and the ability to apply them to procedures development is essential.
  • Candidate must show ability to respond under pressure as a Flight Controller for positions in the Multi-Purpose Support Room.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills are required.
  • Russian, Japanese, or European language skills are a plus.
  • Candidate with web development working knowledge or project management experience and knowledge of XML and SharePoint are also a plus.
  • The successful completion of a government background check is required.
  • US Citizenship is required.

Working environment

This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computer, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical requirements

This is largely a sedentary role; however, this position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
