Job purpose

A subcontract structural engineer is required for work on multiple Antarctic projects. We are looking for proficiency in structural engineering, associated computer applications, familiarity with common commercial and industrial construction materials and systems. This person will support Antarctic science construction projects and Antarctic station facilities from the ASC office in Centennial Colorado.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Completes structural engineering designs, associated calculations, engineering analyses, finite element analysis, reviews and reworks existing plans, finalizes and stamps new or modified  structural designs
  • Assists with cost estimating, materials engineering, and selection of structural materials for procurement
  • Provides status reports to the Engineering Manager regarding engineering progress and work tasks
  • Coordinates with the Project Engineers and Project Managers on structural engineering activities relating to design and construction elements of projects
  • Provides assistance to ongoing construction efforts with design and specification clarifications and changes, as-built drawings, field engineering, constructability assessments, structural change requests
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring safety is the highest priority in the work place. Incorporation of safety and constructability into designs produced
  • Other duties as required within the Engineering Design group

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering is required.
  • Current Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration is required. This person must be able to stamp and seal the Structural Drawings produced.
  • Training: As appropriate for the above educational and licensing requirements
  • A minimum four years of progressively responsible structural engineering experience with structural facilities design and systems is required, along with experience reviewing structural engineering design, and specification preparation. Previous structural design experience for Antarctic (or other extreme cold environment) is strongly preferred.
  • US citizenship or permanent residence is required.

Physical requirements

  • The individual in the position must successfully complete the physical and dental examinations, and psychological examination, as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica.  Failure to meet these requirements may result in withdrawal of employment offer or other employment action.

WORK LOCATION: Centennial, CO 

 

HOUR OF OPERATION: Day shift, 30 to 40 hours per week depending on tasking load
