Architect Jobs at GHG Corporation
Sample Architect Job Description
Architect
Job purpose
As a part of the Antarctic Infrastructure Modernization for Science (AIMS) and McMurdo Palmer South Pole Modernization (MPSM) projects, Master Plans have been completed for McMurdo and Palmer Stations and initial facilities and utilities have been designed using both Design-Build (DB) and Design-Bid-Build (DBB) approaches. The end result will be a modern, efficient, and more compact layout for the stations.
McMurdo station is a remote and isolated environment and a comprehensive facility redevelopment is planned over the next several years. Substantive information consisting of D/B and D/B/B design drawings, specifications, scopes of work (SOW), and Basis of Design (BOD) reports have been created for discrete projects that include Core Facilities, Utilities, Vehicle Equipment Operations Center and Lodging. In an effort to reduce risk to the solicitation phase as well as project execution, this SOW involves a thorough review of key solicitation documents. This review is intended to improve clarity of solicitation documents, reduce confusion and questions from the contracting community, and ensure documents can be understood and bid with confidence. While neither cost nor constructability reviews are requested at this time, all documents used in the sources sought solicitation will be provided to the successful consultant to aid in overall understanding of the project. These documents include pre-design studies that helped inform and shaped the information presented within the DB design documents.
The overall review effort for this tasking will be conducted by Leidos engineering resources. The third party peer review architect position will support this engineering team, specifically focusing on architectural design information included in the bid documents. The reviewer will coordinate level of effort and schedule, document review priorities and review deliverables and dovetail them with the overall engineering review effort. The result of this coordination will be a clean, understandable and concise report that documents the review. As an architect, the review will focus specifically on front end documentation to determine a contractor's ability to interpret prescriptive architectural requirements from performance requirements (i.e. what design elements are flexible, what is mandatory, what is unacceptable).
As this project is currently being developed for a Request for Proposal to industry, the Third Party Peer Review Architect hired under this scope of work will be ineligible to be a part of the execution of the project itself.
