Drafter/Designer I

Job purpose

Prepares drawings of components, equipment, communications networks and systems.

Duties and responsibilities

• Use computer and recognized systems of symbols and legends to create original drawings that communicate engineering design information. Work from work orders, verbal and written instructions to perform duties.
• Revise existing drawings based on verbal explanations, sketches, and marked-up prints. Layout and prepare simple mechanical drawings from data provided by Designer.
• Output drawings in various formats from electronic files of various types. Research files and catalogs for information required to complete project.
• Conduct design review of technical documentation and drawings against performance specifications for technical compliance.
• Create/edit charts and images and presentation materials. Maintain files and backup disks.
• As instructed, up-date or revise drawings to incorporate latest changes.
• Apply knowledge of procedures and systems to a broad range of basic issues. May require knowledge of specialized processes or technical skills.
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Vocational/technical training beyond high school and at least 3 years of job-related experience or equivalent. Requires MicroStation CAD software experience. The position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance

Working environment

This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computer, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical requirements

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 25 pounds.

Position Expectations

This is a full-time position and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Travel is not expected for this position.
