Flight Dynamics Officer 2

Job Description:

Candidate will be assigned to support the Flight Dynamics Officer (FDO) group (CM46) and the Flight Dynamics Division within the Flight Operations Directorate at the Johnson Space Center. Candidate will interface with the NASA customer on a daily basis as well as many other technical and engineering organizations and will be required to represent the FDO at NASA meetings. This position involves all aspects of SLS, Orion and possibly Commercial Crew trajectory analysis, integration, troubleshooting, flight rule and procedure development and real-time monitoring and flight control work for a variety of tasks including, but not limited to, trajectory performance, integrated launch aborts, Range Safety, Launch window analysis, and Day of Launch Vehicle updates (DOLILU). Candidate may also be called upon to provide support and oversight associated with the various Commercial Crew Program providers. Candidate must have the ability to run trajectory simulations and interpret performance data. The employee will be expected to have the ability to achieve certification as a flight controller in support of the FDO console operations where they will be part of the Mission Control Center (MCC) team responsible for the flight operations, including coordination of trajectory and performance operations and failure analysis with other flight controllers and the Flight Director. During missions and simulations, shift work, including weekends and holidays, is an integral part of the task and the ability to support an irregular schedule may be required. Additional duties require supporting meetings and concisely reporting results to management, writing flight rules, software requirements, system briefs and console procedures, developing MCC displays, console tools, cue cards, and making oral presentations.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering: Aerospace (preferred), Electrical or Mechanical.

2-5 years of applicable experience.

Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.

A demonstrated ability to work with minimal direction.

The ability to pass a standard physical examination for flight controller certification.

The ability to support shift work (nights, weekends, and holidays) as necessary.

The ability to successfully complete a government background check.

US Citizenship.
