Position Description

SGT seeks a highly motivated Junior Software Engineer to join our NASA development team. The selected candidate will serve as a member of a NASA/GSFC Flight Computing team and will be responsible for supporting a wide array of design, development, integration, and testing activities associated with both embedded flight and ground support systems. The team supports multiple rapid development flight projects through their full lifecycle from concept development through mission operations. On the flight system side, the candidate will provide embedded flight system software development support and will be involved with activities including: development of device drivers, test applications, flight application software. The candidate will also support development of associated components including: makefiles, unit tests, functional tests, and technical documentation. On the ground support system side, the candidate will provide support for the development and integration of flight component emulators / simulators and associated "glue-ware" to support development of flat systems essential to development and testing of flight system. The candidate will also support development of tools and utilities to help facilitate rapid flight system development. Candidate will work closely with team members to support development / testing of the overall hardware / software solutions required to advance NASA's flight computing capabilities.

Position Requirements

General Requirements:

Must have a BS Degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering (or equivalent experience). A minimum of 2 years related software engineering and development experience is desired.

Must be able to work on site full time at NASA/GSFC.

Must be able to support work outside "core" hours such as to facilitate flight hardware integration and testing campaigns (e.g. TVAC)

Must have excellent written/verbal communication skills

Required Skills:


Must have experience with C/C++, Java, Python, and XML.

Must have experience with Linux and/or OS X development.

Must have experience with SVN and/or GIT.

Desired Skills:


Experience with unit testing frameworks (e.g. Cppunit)

Experience with support tools (gcov, valgrind, gdb, etc.)

Experience with GNU GCC

Experience with flight software / embedded systems development

Experience with System on a Chip (FPGA w/ Embedded processors) solutions

Experience with Linux Device Driver development

Experience with UML

Experience working in a fast paced / rapid development environment

Experience with documentation support tools (LaTeX, HTML, Doxygen)
