MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

DESCRIPTION:

Mechanical Design Engineer to provide level of effort engineering design support to the Orion Mechanisms team. Candidate must be able to work with general direction. Tasks shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Assist with the technical aspects of mechanical design associated with integrating hardware components into the Crew Hatches.
• Create, review and modify engineering products in support of component design, development, test and evaluation. This includes CAD models and engineering drawings.
• Coordinate the planning, development, organization and control of integration products.
• Support the engineering drawing release process including product structure development, change boards, and presenting at technical design and drawing reviews.
• Support procurement activities as needed.
• Action item follow-up and closure.
• Create presentations (MS Power Point).

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 to 9 years of professional experience. Aerospace or mechanical engineering background is required. Considered to be experienced or journeymen level in the field.
• Must have mechanical design skills and experience required to create detail piece part designs, assemblies and associated engineering drawings.
• Must be proficient in PTC Creo 2 (or prior Pro/E version), and Windchill 9.1.
• Experience with industrial and military/aerospace standards and specifications.
• Good communications skills. Must be able to communicate effectively, be able to present design/analysis to a broad audience, and work with standard Microsoft Office applications.
• U.S. Citizenship is Required.

DESIRED SKILLS:

• Experience with material selection, stress analysis, technical writing, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, tolerance stack-up analysis, Mathcad, product development, and manufacturing is highly desired.
• Experience with human-rated spaceflight mechanisms design, analysis and integration.
• Experience on Lockheed Martin space or NASA programs especially the NASA Orion Program.
• Experience with mechanical and thermal testing.
