Mechanical Design Engineer

Job purpose

Provide Mechanical Design Engineering services to support development of hardware for the Orion Crew Systems, and Life Support.

Duties and responsibilities

• Engineering design, build and test support, of Orion Crew Systems hardware.
• CAD development, Vehicle Configuration, Mechanical Interface Control Drawings (MICDs), and System Level Trade Studies;
• Engineering Drafting support, which includes the following:

1) Generate Creo Elements/Pro 5.0 solid models

2) Generate engineering drawings and parts list using Creo Elements/Pro (formerly Pro/ENGINEER) 5.0 and Windchill v9

3) Generate engineering drawings and parts list per Lockheed Martin drawings standards;

4) Proper application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing

5) Generate tolerance analysis of designs

6) Engineering check of layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy dimensioning.

• The activity includes both structural and mechanisms design,, vehicle integration modeling, and project engineering tasks to coordinate with loads. Generation of layouts assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms structure.
• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• 2-year associate degree with 5 years experience in mechanical design for aerospace, automotive industries, or similar field requiring design of mechanical machines and/or systems.
• Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and Word Processing software
• Good time management skills, good work ethic
• Focused, methodical with good analytical skills

Working environment

This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computer, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical requirements

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required.  This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing as necessary.  This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds

Position Expectations

This is a full-time position 8:00am to 5:00 pm. No travel is expected for this position.
