Mechanical Design Engineer

OVERVIEW:
Mechanical Design Engineer to provide level of effort engineering design support to the Orion Landing and Recovery Systems (LRS) team primarily involving the development of a full-scale, high fidelity parachute compartment (PC) for the Exploration Missions (EM) Parachute Test Vehicle (PTV).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the technical aspects of mechanical design associated with integrating hardware components into the EM PTVPC.
- Create, review and modify engineering products in support of component design, development, test and evaluation. This includes CAD models and engineering drawings.
- Coordinate the planning, development, organization and control of integration products.
- Support the engineering drawing release process including product structure development, change boards, and presenting at technical design and drawing reviews.
- Support procurement activities as needed.
- Action item follow-up and closure.
- Create presentations (MS Power Point).
- Ability to travel: One possible trip of five business days.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.

EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 to 9 years of professional experience. Aerospace or mechanical engineering background is required.
- Must have mechanical design skills and experience required to create detail piece part designs, assemblies and associated engineering drawings.
- Must be proficient in PTC Creo/Pro 5.0 (or prior Pro/E version), and Windchill 9.1.
- Experience with material selection, stress analysis, technical writing, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, tolerance stack-up analysis, Mathcad, product development, and manufacturing is highly desired.
- Experience with human-rated spaceflight hardware design and integration is desired.
- Good communications skills. Must be able to communicate effectively, and be able to present to a broad audience.
- Experience with standard Microsoft Office applications - MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
