Mechanical Design Engineer

OVERVIEW:
• The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for design, development, testing and engineering associated with the Orion Test Laboratory Facilities, Test Equipment, Systems and Subsystems. The primary Test Facilities are located in Denver Colorado, with satellite facilities located in Houston TX and at Kennedy Space Center, FL.
The selected candidate will be responsible for concepts and detail design from single parts to complete assemblies with a focus on design optimization and ease of manufacturing. the person managing this role will generate engineering designs and drawings per industry standards, ensure completed drawings are clear, complete, and conform to standards, processes, specifications, and reviews accuracy of tolerance calculations and dimensioning. The ideal person will identify design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommend revisions and/or improvements in design.
They will facilitate the release of engineering drawings including product structure development, change boards, and presenting at technical design & drawing reviews. Preliminary Design Review (PDR) preparation which includes requirements development, test plan derivation and manufacturing planning. Support development testing and Procurement activities as needed.
Basic Qualifications Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with a minimum of 4 to 6 years of professional experience.
• Knowledge and understanding of design and drafting standard.
• Knowledge and understanding of ASME drawing standard Y14.
• Knowledge and understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Experience in designing test racks for use in laboratory support equipment design for space flight testing and ground support equipment (GSE)
• Proficient with Creo/Pro 5.0 .
• Proficient with product lifecycle management software Windchill 9.1 .
• Experience with Microsoft Office products including MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Visio.
• Good technical writing and verbal communication skills.
Desired skills • Mechanical design, material selection, and stress analysis.
• Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance working knowledge & tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Product development and manufacturing experience.
• Experience with human-rated spaceflight hardware and /or ground support equipment design.
• Very Good technical writing and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to present and communicate effectively to a broad technical community.
• Ability to work independently as well as a team setting.
• Experience with Zuken electrical design software.
Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years of professional experience with a related Master's degree. Considered career, or journey, level.
Work Status U.S. Citizenship is Required.
