Mechanical Design Engineer

DESCRIPTION:

Mechanical Design Engineer to provide level of effort to support the Orion Spacecraft subsystems within the Crew and Service Module Integrated Product Team. Subsystems include Crew Health Habitation and Accommodation, Environmental Controls and Life Support System, EVA, Suits Interface and Survival Crew Equipment, and Passive Thermal Control. Candidate shall have experience with ProE (minimum - CreO) and CAD operation, and working knowledge and experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

Tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Perform mechanical design using ProE to generate cost effective designs of subsystems hardware and generate engineering/manufacturing drawings;
• Investigate pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost;
• Generate layouts of complex assemblies and detail parts of devices, mechanisms, structures, and softgoods;
• Reviews completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning;
• Interface with project lead/engineers during design development process;
• Act as technical interface between design and support functions;
• Perform engineering liaison function with manufacturing during hardware build
• Check CAD models and drawings generated by other designers

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 9 years of professional experience; or 7 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. (generally considered a level 4 engineer)
• Good communications skills. Must be able to communicate effectively, be able to present findings and recommendations to a broad audience.
• Experience with human-rated spaceflight hardware design and integration is desired.
• Some travel is required. Assume 2 trips per year with average of 5 days each. Likely locations are Denver CO and Kennedy Space Center.
• U.S. Citizenship is required.
