Network Architect - Enterprise Architecture

DESCRIPTION

Network Architect for a contract position to work in support of the United States Antarctic Program as a member of the Enterprise Architecture team. This position will be involved in the design and development of updated network architectures and designs to support both the operational and scientific networking and computing needs at the U.S. research stations in Antarctica, along with the various logistics and support locations throughout the world.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and document all of the following through research, collaboration, and evaluation:
o Network architectures and standards in a global organization
o Network designs including wireless, NAC, and operational support procedures
o Extended VLAN and subnet mapping
o IPv6 subnet and routing maps
o Feature, method, and cost analysis including trade-offs and risk identification
o Product roadmaps including lifecycle planning
o Internet connection BGP design (IPv4 & IPv6)
o Interior Routing Protocols
• Ensure compatibility of existing communications & systems with new network designs including:
o Voice over IP - VoIP
o DDC and SCADA networks
• Contribute network roadmap considerations and strategic planning.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND ABILITIES IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE:

• 5+ years' experience as an architect for mid to large size environments designing and engineering, evaluating, recommending and deploying designs and standards for current and future technology, contributing information and recommendations to strategic plans and global network architecture.
• Understanding and knowledge of Zero Trust Network Architecture framework and model
• Understanding of the TCP/IP suites of protocols for both IPv4 and IPv6.
• Ability to learn new technologies quickly either collaboratively or independently as needed.
• Maintains knowledge of marketplace including new technologies, trends, products and features.
• 5+ years' experience with the following:
o Network Design and Architecture, including:
• IPv4 and IPv6 subnet design
• EIGRP routing design
• Quality of Service
• Wireless networking (802.11)
• CIDR route aggregation
• VOIP call management & routing including remote office survivability
o Network Security configurations including:
• Firewalls / DMZ configuration / Border security
• Policy creation and management (both personnel policies and device policies)
o Microsoft Office suite including Visio for diagrams.
o Information security concepts and requirements
o Network Management systems
o Application performance analysis
• Knowledge or familiarity with the following technologies/ areas:
o WAN acceleration
o Virtualization / VMware
o Remote Access and VPN (IPsec and SSL)
o Satellite communication links (satellite equipment is a plus)
o Cellular technologies (3G/4G/LTE)
o Cloud computing
• Certifications a plus: CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CNE, CISSP, CNSE
• Strong analytical and creative problem solving skills for design, creation and testing of complex systems
• Strong communication skills to communicate systems proposals to management and customers
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact with customers, senior level personnel, and team members
• Strong organization skills to prioritize work, balance and lead complex projects
