Senior Instructional Designer

Job Description:

The Senior Instructional Designer will serve as the leader of the instructional training course (teaching others on how to be good instructors).  They will also serve as an instructional system design subject matter expert, working with Flight Controllers and Instructors to design and develop training for NASA Flight Operations Directorate flight controllers and instructors as well as NASA astronauts. Lead teams to design and develop training for new space systems and modify existing training. Responsibilities include project management, design and development of technical instruction, planning and conducting train the trainer courses, and providing ISD expertise and guidance to FOD on a variety of projects, including the facilitation of Training Needs Analysis where necessary across the organization.  Will participate in the development of the process for implementing recommendations from Training Needs Analysis (TNA) into lesson flows and products. 

Required Education & Skills:

Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design or related field with 10 years of experience or Master's in Instructional Design with 7 years of experience. Must have experience in all five phases of Instructional Systems Development (ISD) model. Consulting and Project Management skills required. Strong foundation in needs assessment and instructional methods required. Must be able to consult with customers on training requirements for highly technical jobs. Must be able to perform effectively in a fast paced, demanding work environment. Must be able to work independently and in a team environment. A clear demonstration of a consistent practice of maintaining connection with the ISD field regarding the latest concepts, technologies, and use of media is required.  Experience in train the trainer courses a plus. DACUM (Develop A CurriculUM) facilitation experience a plus. Certified Professional In Learning and Performance (CPLP) certification a plus.  Experience in development and management of On-the-Job (OJT) training in a highly technical environment a plus. Experience in a Training Management System is highly desired.   Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements, when required.  Must put forward professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.  Applicant selected will be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified. Travel required averages less than three weeks per year.
