VoIP Network Engineer - Enterprise Architecture

DESCRIPTION

Network Engineer for a contract position to work in support of the United States Antarctic Program as a member of the Enterprise Architecture team. This position will be involved in the design, development and deployment of an updated VoIP network architecture and design to support both the operational and scientific networking and computing needs at the U.S. research station at McMurdo Station, Antarctica.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and document all of the following through research, collaboration, and evaluation:
o VoIP Network architecture and standards in a global organization
o Hybrid VoIP- Analog Network design
o Quality of Service (QoS) ensuring high quality audio
o Feature, method, and cost analysis including trade-offs and risk identification

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND ABILITIES IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE:

• 5+ years' experience designing, configuring and implementing enterprise-class VoIP networks
• Hands-on experience with voice and data products including Cisco Unified Communications, Cisco Voice Gateways, Survivable Remote Site (SRST) functionality, VoIP troubleshooting tools, Cisco routers and switches.
• Understanding of voice/VoIP service provisioning methods, service delivery and SLA metrics
• Understanding of VoIP protocols and codecs – SIP, RTP, T.38, G.711, G.729, H.323
• Experience implementing QoS/CoS policies and priority queuing – WAN/LAN.
• Understanding and experience with IP SLA and Netflow monitoring/management
• Ability to learn new technologies quickly either collaboratively or independently as needed.
• Maintains knowledge of marketplace including new technologies, trends, products and features.
• 5+ years' experience with the following:
o Network Design and Architecture, including:
• Quality of Service
• VOIP call management & routing including remote office survivability
o Microsoft Office suite including Visio for diagrams.
o Network Management systems
o Application performance analysis
• Knowledge or familiarity with the following technologies/ areas as applicable to VoIP networks and performance:
o Satellite communication links (satellite equipment is a plus)
o WAN Acceleration and Optimization
• Certifications a plus: CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CNE, CISSP, CNSE
• Certification preferred: CCVP
• Strong analytical and creative problem solving skills for design, creation and testing of complex systems
• Strong communication skills to communicate systems proposals to management and customers
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact with customers, senior level personnel, and team members
• Strong organization skills to prioritize work, balance and lead complex projects
