Warehouse Forklift Operator

Job purpose

Responsible for the timely and accurate processing of all USAP material/cargo delivered to Port Hueneme for onward movement to Antarctica, which includes but is not limited to offloading trucks, logging and staging that cargo/material in the correct location. The safe movement of cargo/material from the receiving location to the packing activity Assist with the proper loading and securing of containers programmed to move via commercial surface or the annual resupply vessel. Assist with the building and the securing Air Force pallets of cargo moving military air.

Duties and responsibilities

• Carefully/safely unloading trucks/containers delivering inbound material/cargo from suppliers, grantees, military and contractors.
• Accurately log, stage and mark inbound material/cargo destined for Antarctica and returning to grantee and or supplier (s).
• Loading outbound trucks with cargo/material shipping less than truckload (LTL) of FedEx Express or commercial truck to the airport for cargo shipping commercial air.
• Loading and securing containers shipping commercial surface or via the annual resupply vessel.
• Building and securing Air Force pallets (463L) for transport via truck and military Special Assignment Airlift Mission (SAAM)
• Ensure that the documentation for containers and pallets is submitted correctly and in a timely manner
• Safely transport to and retrieve material/cargo between the DLA packing facility in bldg. 475 and 471.
• Safely operate and conduct preventative maintenance on forklifts (5,000 to 6,000lb capacity), and department pick-up trucks.
• Must be capable of regularly lifting at least 75 pounds (safety regulation maximum).
• Perform and maintain clean up on material delivery, receipt, cargo staging and loading and unloading areas.
• Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
• Performs other duties as required.
• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• One to two years of diversified experience in the transportation or supply industry or equivalent experience.  A working knowledge of computers required.
• US citizenship is required

Working environment

This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computer, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical requirements

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required.  This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing as necessary.  This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds

This is a full-time position.

Performance Period: November 2017 - January 2018 (possibly can be extended)

7:00am to 3:30pm, with the possibility of overtime

No travel is expected for this position.
